High-quality backlinks are one of the most important components of an effective SEO strategy. But link-building for law firms requires a lot of effort and a lot of time. Or does it? These sites can boost your digital PR and get more backlinks for your law firm’s website.
Why are Quality Backlinks So Important for Law Firm Websites?
Quality backlinks signal to search engines that your website’s content is valuable and trustworthy. The more you acquire and the better the quality, the more trust and domain authority you signal to Google. These “votes of confidence” for your website can boost search engine rankings and your firm’s online presence.
What defines a quality backlink? According to Neil Patel:
“A quality backlink is a link that comes from a high domain authority website that is well-trusted by search engines and searchers alike. In other words, not only do the robots trust the website, but actual people also trust the website.”
For example, quality backlinks to a law firm’s website might include links from relevant legal associations, trade or business groups, law schools, legal, trade and business publications, or government websites.
Are You Quotable? Seven Free Services to Boost Your Backlinks
One of the best strategies for getting backlinks is to become a source of information for journalists and bloggers. The following companies offer lawyers the opportunity to use their expertise to answer questions and get a backlink in return — a win-win for both parties.
Depending on the topics and questions, it’s a relatively easy way to get backlinks that strengthen your website’s authority.
1. Featured
Pricing: Free with premium upgrade options
Formerly known as Terkel, Featured is our top choice for lawyers who are looking to boost their backlink profiles. With questions posed from websites of all kinds, even niche legal blogs, this easy-to-use platform can be a great asset to add to your arsenal.
Here is a breakdown of Featured’s pricing options:
- Starter. This is a free account that allows you to supply three answers per month and set alerts for three keywords. With this version, you cannot see if the link you get will be a DoFollow or NoFollow or what its domain ranking will be, but you will be able to track your responses.
- Pro. For $40 per month, you receive everything the starter plan offers, but you can supply unlimited answers and will be able to see domain ratings and link attributes.
- Business. Starting at $80 per month, you receive the same benefits as the previous plans, but you can have multiple accounts, which works well for a team. You will also unlock access to bylined articles, interview profiles and AI answer-checking.
2. Source of Sources (SOS)
Pricing: Free
As the newest link-building platform, SOS was launched in 2024 by Peter Shankman, the original founder of HARO (Help A Reporter Out). HARO, a wildly popular tool that allowed PR professionals to respond to journalist requests directly via email, was acquired by PR technology company Cision in 2010. Cision shut down the product in April 2024, morphing it into Connnectively (see below). Shankman launched Source of Sources to fill a void — connecting journalists with good sources — with the goal of improving on HARO’s past glory.
When you sign up for SOS, you can select which topics you would like to be emailed about, such as business and finance, technology, and health. You will then receive three emails a day with the latest quote requests from journalists employed by publications and websites.
3. Qwoted
Pricing: Free and premium options
While Qwoted takes a more traditional approach to PR, it can be a terrific tool for getting more online coverage and possibly receiving a backlink. However, unlike most of the other tools we mention, there is no guarantee. That shouldn’t turn you away, however, because Qwoted features requests from top news sources such as the AP, Fox News and Business Insider.
Here is a breakdown of their pricing options:
- Basic. This is a free plan that allows two pitches per month and limits you to a two-hour delay in responding to newly published questions. You also will be able to sign up for unlimited real-time email alerts. Despite the two-pitch format, there are plenty of free questions you will be able to reply to without using one of your pitches.
- Pro. For $99/month, you will receive everything the starter plan has, plus unlimited answers and no delay in sending in your pitch. You also will receive enhancements such as pitch intelligence, opportunity research and more.
- Teams. For a price based on your business size, you will receive the same benefits as the previous plans but can have multiple profiles for teams and access to white labeling, training and support.
4. HelpAB2BWriter
Pricing: Free
Help a B2B Writer is a good tool for lawyers who want to obtain more high-quality backlinks related to their area of expertise. It is another email-only platform that is extremely easy to use.
Once you sign up, you can specify what topics you want to be emailed about:

5. SourceBottle
Pricing: Free with premium upgrade options
SourceBottle is another free tool for responding to journalist requests. It caters mostly to the UK and Australia, with other journalists from Canada, Singapore, New Zealand and the U.S. This diversity in location can help give your backlink profile more reach, so be sure to look into this option.
Here is a current list of topics the site caters to:
Business and finance | Lifestyle, food and fashion | Property |
Environment | Parenting and education | Technology |
General | PR, media and marketing | Travel and leisure |
Health and wellbeing | Professional services |
While the majority of SourceBottle’s offerings are free, they also offer a subscription option that provides access to case studies and giveaways.
6. Connectively (HARO)
Pricing: Free and premium options
Acting as the new home for HARO queries, Connectively is a branch of Cision, a popular PR platform, that allows you to respond to various journalist requests. Within their platform, you can search for questions based on specific phrases related to your field, and, at times, see what source is asking the question.
Here is a breakdown of their pricing options:
- Lite. This free plan allows you to answer 10 questions per month, search for questions based on keywords, and create one saved search.
- Core. As the next tiered option, for $19 per month, you will be upgraded to 25 answers per month and will receive two saved searches and two email alerts.
- Pro. At $49 per month, this option allows you to create three different profiles, send 50 pitches each month, save six searches and receive six email alerts every month.
- Premier. For $149 per month, you can send 150 pitches per month, create 20 saved searches, and have as many as 20 email alerts for up to 10 different profiles.
7. Search #Journorequests
Pricing: Free
Did you know that on X (formerly Twitter), hundreds of reporters post about their need for experts to give quotes for the articles they are working on? If you search #journorequests and save the search, you can see real-time requests from various niches.
If you do not have an X account, there are additional tools out there, such as the Sourcee app, that will do the searching for you and alert you when something is posted containing keywords you select in your account.
